Real freedom

“Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin.”” John 8:34

Many of the problems that people face and get stuck in have to do with sin. Sin brings guilt and captivity. There are many kinds of addictions that hold people captive today, even Christians.

Now, it is not that sin is always the cause of problems. It can actually be the other way around sometimes, that because one has left the path of sin and is doing God’s will, the devil shoots his fiery arrows and wants to try to create problems. That is why it is so important that you learn to resist the devil. Many times the devil also shoots arrows of false accusation and false feelings of guilt at those who live right.

But there are times when one need to turn from sin. But unfortunately it is the case that many preachers do not preach repentance because they do not want to be perceived as judgmental and because they want to feel liked. They can preach lots of other things and give false revelations and advice. But that does not lead to real freedom.

“Your prophets have seen vain and foolish things for you: and they have not uncovered your iniquity, to turn away your captivity; but have given you false oracles and causes of banishment.” Lamentations 2:14

If you really want to help others and show the solution, you need to tell the truth in love. Then it is about people needing to want to leave sin and ask Jesus for forgiveness and help to not sin. Jesus is always quick to forgive and help. Jesus came here to earth to set the captives free both from the guilt and binding power of sin, but also from the eternal captivity in hell.

“For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who was in every sense tempted like we are, yet without sin. Let us then come with confidence to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” Hebrews 4:15‭-‬16

Repentance from sin to Jesus is the way to true freedom, both from guilt and the captivity of sin. Jesus is powerful to deliver and help. All people have a right to hear this so that they can be saved for eternity and live in freedom here and now.

“Therefore if the Son sets you free, you shall be free indeed.” John 8:36

God bless you.
