Loser or conqueror?

“So then, as the children share in flesh and blood, He likewise took part in these, so that through death He might destroy him who has the power of death, that is, the devil, and deliver those who through fear of death were throughout their lives subject to bondage.” Hebrews 2:14‭-‬15

Jesus, the Son of God, nailed to a cross, it looked like a great defeat and even His followers did not understand what was happening.

Jesus, God revealed in the flesh, in other words in a human body, lived and walked among us humans around two thousand years ago. Jesus constantly spoke about God as the Father and showed through His works what God is like. Jesus healed the sick, freed those who were stuck in the powers of darkness and forgave sins. If we want to know what God is like, we can look at Jesus and you see Jesus in the Bible.

But Jesus did not come here to earth just to preach, heal and reveal the character of God, but He came to die. Many, both then and now, believe that Jesus was killed against His will and that there was something pitiful about Jesus. Could you be more wrong?

Jesus came to take the penalty of our sins and win a victory over sin, guilt, darkness and the devil for us. It was through His suffering and death that Jesus defeated what wants to torment us humans. When Jesus hanged on the cross with outstretched arms, it is like a conqueror with a victory gesture. For the soul and physically, it was an enormous suffering for Jesus. He sweated blood, was betrayed, mocked, beaten and crucified but in His heart Jesus smiled. It was through His death that He disarmed the devil. Jesus dealt with the root problem of all mankind – sin and guilt.

The devil is an accuser and uses sin and guilt to ensnare and manipulate people. Jesus has solved the sin and guilt problem. Because Jesus took our sin penalty and rose from the dead on the third day, He has opened the way to true freedom.

Maybe you have been despised by people and called a hopeless case or maybe you are so self-righteous and think you can handle yourself. The fact is that every single person needs to be reconciled to God. Turn away from sin and turn to Jesus and share in the victory that He has won for you. When you put your faith and trust in Jesus and confess Him as your Lord, you become a liberated person and saved for eternity. Together with Jesus, you can win in this life and be above the powers of darkness.

Jesus is the conqueror and Lord and we get to be His followers.

God bless you.
